A glass and ceramic artist living and working in

Banff National Park, Canada.

Embarking on my artistic journey, I intentionally engage with historical, cultural, and societal influences, expressed through meticulous material choices, thematic explorations, and collaborative projects. Carved marks and sculpted forms serve as conscious navigators through the complexities of identity and heritage, fostering a profound dialogue within broader historical and societal contexts that shape my artistic narrative.

Utilising craft as my connection, I create work that captures my perceived phenomenological experiences of time, spirituality and land.

FLOWER VASES

With a reverence for nature, the work I create hopes to encapsulate human connections to land and time through depicting the deep marks of mountains and water on land. Made with love and imagination, my works attempts to deal directly with concepts of my identity in relation to the land I reside.

The work created to get to where I am today

Aligned with Jenny Odell's exploration, a contemporary artist and author renowned for her insightful reflections on the intersection of nature and modern life, my work draws inspiration from National Parks, intertwining the environment with personal and collective identity. Odell's work delves into the transformative power of the natural world, reflecting a shared interest in the profound connections between our surroundings and our individual and communal sense of self. Her perspectives echo in my artistic endeavors, guiding the exploration of the intricate relationships between the environment, identity, and the rich tapestry of shared heritage within the context of National Parks.

Exploring my bioregion reflects a broader understanding of interconnectedness between environment, identity, and heritage. The 'Mountains Meet Water' series, adorned with semi-precious and crystal stones, visually narrates a profound reverence for nature. Within its intricate details, the series delicately examines the implications of resource extraction and materialism, weaving a complex narrative that intertwines the stories of humanity and the environment.

Inspired by Odell's vision for a utopian society restoring biological and cultural ecosystems, I embrace the concept of manifest dismantling. Actively challenging prevailing notions of progress within cultural organizations, my work fosters change from within. Acknowledging my privilege in residing in a park, I recognize a responsibility to contribute to the restoration of biological and cultural ecosystems. Through intentional engagement with these influences, my work aspires to contribute to social change, dismantling exploitative structures, and fostering a sense of community.

Influenced by Jeremy Nobel's "Project Unlonely," which champions the role of curiosity, awe, and creativity in combating loneliness, my artistic journey fosters connections and resonates with Nobel's advocacy for the healing power of creative expression. Nobel, a medical doctor and founder of the Unlonely Project, emphasizes the importance of community engagement and creative pursuits in enhancing well-being. Within my artistic exploration of mountains, I draw from Nobel's insights, infusing my work with a sense of wonder and creativity that mirrors his vision for a more connected and unlonely society. The historical significance of ceramics as a communal medium, bringing people together through shared rituals like tea ceremonies and communal meals, further informs my approach. The intricate details of my "Mountains Meet Water" series serve as visual narratives that not only convey a deep reverence for nature but also echo Nobel's belief in the transformative potential of creativity to address societal challenges and foster a sense of shared connection.
